In relation to the current impact on her life, she mentioned: ‘My symptoms are under control, but I experience discomfort in my nerves when I jump or sprint, which is the reason I stopped running as it became quite uncomfortable.’
I continue to have sensitive skin that bruises readily, and foods rich in salt, sugar, or alcohol can cause inflammation in my legs.
She concluded: ‘I can definitely manage it better now I’m aware of it though.’
In reply to a fan’s question about lipoedema, Shaughna posted an attractive photo from 2019 and openly disclosed: “Funnily enough, being on Love Island helped me realize I had it (smiling emoji)
She mentioned: ‘I’ve always been aware that my legs were unusual, and it would puzzle me, but I wasn’t aware that there was a term for it.’
Back in 2019, I weighed approximately 9 stones, sporting a size 6 on top and a size 14 on the bottom. Reflecting upon that time now, it appears glaringly obvious that something wasn’t quite normal. However, at the time, lipoedema was / is largely overlooked or unknown.
Hearing the diagnosis from my surgeon not only transformed my life but also alleviated a great deal of guilt I had been carrying regarding the condition of my legs, as I no longer held myself responsible for it.
In September 2020, Shaughna opted for liposuction on her legs, as she had been diagnosed with lipoedema earlier.
Lipoedema surgical treatment, or Lipedema Fat Removal Surgery (LFRS) as it’s also called, is a procedure not related to aesthetics, but rather designed to eliminate excess fat in the body to manage lipoedema. This procedure can alleviate symptoms such as pain, swelling, and improve mobility.
Previously, Shaughna, who was employed by Lambeth Council in London prior to her television career, disclosed to The Sun that she frequented the gym about six times each week.
She shared with the press: ‘Ever since I can recall, my legs have been a source of insecurity for me. It’s something I’ve always wished to alter about myself.’
Despite hitting the gym six days a week, managing to get down to 9 stone 6 pounds and fitting into a size six on top, my legs remained a size 14.
Additionally, she acknowledged that during her stint on Love Island, she spent a considerable amount of time talking to the therapist about her feelings because she found herself amidst many beautiful women. She described herself as the show’s representative of diversity in terms of body type.
Shaughna shared that following her departure from the villa, she received inquiries from fans about whether she had been diagnosed with lipoedema, a health issue she was previously unaware of. This discovery was a significant and enlightening moment for her.
