Blumhouse Horror Flop

最近、彼らは「M3Gan」(2023)、「Five Nights at Freddy’s」(2023)、「Speak No Evil」(2024)などの映画で成功を収めました。しかし、すべてのBlumhouse Productionsがヒットするわけではなく、2025年の初めにリリースされた映画は劇場でほとんど注目されませんでした。

Wolf Man Finds Redemption On Streaming

The Blumhouse Film Had A Disappointing Theatrical Run

Following a disappointing run in cinemas, “Wolf Man,” directed by Leigh Whannel, has gained significant popularity on streaming platforms. Produced by Blumhouse, this new iteration of the Universal monster features Christopher Abbott as the main character. The film, which additionally stars Julia Garner and Matilda Firth, tells the story of a family living on a secluded farm who are threatened by an enigmatic creature. As a result, the father undergoes a terrifying metamorphosis into a monster. While critical reception for “Wolf Man” was divided, the film managed to earn $34 million at the box office.

Currently, it seems that Whannell’s film is regaining favor on streaming platforms, as FlixPatrol reports that “Wolf Man” is the most-watched movie on Peacock in the U.S. at this moment. Interestingly, this Blumhouse production has outperformed some notable releases on the top 10 list, such as “Wicked” (2024), “Minions: The Rise of Gru” (2022), “Hop” (2011), and “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2” (2012). For a complete look at the top 10 list, see below.

2 Wicked
3 Minions: The Rise of Gru

5 The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2
6 Home
7 The Wild Robot
8 Plane
9 Trolls
10 Nosferatu

What This Means For Wolf Man

The Blumhouse Film’s Reception Explained

Recently premiered on streaming platforms on April 18, it’s not unexpected that “Wolf Man” would show up in the top 10 list. However, claiming the number one spot is noteworthy. With an estimated production cost of around $25 million, it’s possible that “Wolf Man” needed to earn at least $62 million or more just to break even. Given its current performance, it appears that it fell significantly short of this target. The VOD (Video on Demand) sales might have lessened the gap, but it seems unlikely that this reboot will be a triumph for Blumhouse.

Despite Leigh Whannell directing the critically acclaimed and commercially successful 2020 reboot of The Invisible Man, his latest project, Wolf Man, hasn’t garnered the same positive response. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film receives mediocre scores from both critics and viewers, at 50% and 56%, respectively. Key issues raised include the movie’s slow pace and absence of scary moments. It remains unclear if Wolf Man‘s underperformance has hindered any future Universal monster reboots, but it seems viewers are currently enjoying the film more on streaming platforms.
