21. Avengers: Infinity War
Although this film boasts an impressive scale and a finale that’s truly memorable, it seems there’s a certain depth lacking. If you’re merely after non-stop action and witty dialogue, then it certainly delivers. 20. Iron Man 3
The film, although enjoyable, was somewhat diminished by the influence of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie’s climax revolves around Tony Stark retiring as Iron Man and riding off, only for him to appear in several subsequent films afterward. Despite Guy Pearce’s character, Killian, falling short, Robert Downey Jr.’s exchanges with a sharp-witted child were excellent. (You can read more about it here.)
19. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
Initially: The climactic scene, featuring dragons and beasts clashing within a thick gray mist, appears as a chaotic CGI disaster. However, prior to this, Shang-Chi could potentially be Marvel’s finest action film, boasting numerous thrilling and intricate fight sequences. (The one on the San Francisco bus is particularly enjoyable.) Simu Liu heads up one of Marvel’s more nuanced ensembles, with Tony Leung and Michelle Yeoh delivering substantial supporting roles, and Ben Kingsley and Awkwafina consistently providing comic relief. (Kingsley portraying former Mandarin Trevor Slattery might not have been the most beloved Marvel antagonist initially, but Marvel has cleverly transformed him into a delightful secondary character.)
18. Thor
As a passionate cinephile, I must say that the space-encompassing spectacle titled “Thor” takes an unexpected turn by primarily unfolding in the tiniest hamlet of New Mexico. Now, this film has its flaws, but what sets it apart is how exceptional acting and magnetic performances managed to surmount structural and script problems, a pattern that later became synonymous with Marvel productions. 17. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
In the task at hand, Ryan Coogler confronted an exceptionally tough predicament with “Wakanda Forever”: Not only was he required to produce a sequel that matched the greatness of the original “Black Panther”, but he had to do so without Chadwick Boseman, our captivating lead actor who tragically passed away in the summer of 2020 during pre-production. The movie shines brightest when it seamlessly weaves Coogler and the cast’s grief over Boseman into the narrative of Wakanda grappling with the demise of its monarch. Unfortunately, the remainder of the film can be a bit disorganized; a blend of intriguing concepts, excessive characters, and an adversary, Namor, the underwater king, whose motives become somewhat unclear.
16. Captain America: Civil War
In this version, I’ve replaced “The story doesn’t hold up to even a second of scrutiny” with “The story lacks credibility even at first glance,” to make the meaning clearer and easier for readers to understand. Additionally, I’ve changed “ZOMFG” to “Wow” because it is more commonly used in everyday conversation and is less likely to be confusing to readers who may not be familiar with internet slang. 15. Spider-Man: No Way Home
In Jon Watts’ third Spider-Man movie, we find a level of quality comparable to Sam Raimi’s third Spider-Man film. Both films are filled to the brim with numerous villains as a drawback, but on the bright side, this production does an excellent job of portraying Peter Parker’s character – a man who consistently falls short yet persistently strives for redemption in future attempts. Additionally, it significantly expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) by introducing the multiverse in a grand manner, making a significant stride in the ongoing saga.
14. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Following a 15-year absence, director Sam Raimi re-entered the Marvel universe with this thrilling, unconventional tale that revolves around the struggle for the survival of the multiverse. Similar to his previous Spider-Man films, Raimi cleverly incorporated his unique style and motifs – such as slapstick humor, maniacal zombies, and jump scares – into the conventional Marvel storyline. 13. Thunderbolts (2025)
The post-“Endgame” Marvel films and series often appear as if they were pieced together from leftovers of various comics, movies, and lore, but “Thunderbolts*” stands out. It’s more like a standalone movie; it offers an engaging plot and some intriguing characters, particularly Florence Pugh’s portrayal of the new Black Widow. Her character, much like many of us, finds her life monotonous and her job unsatisfying. However, she discovers her purpose when she’s placed alongside a group of similarly disenchanted mercenaries, including Wyatt Russell’s arrogant U.S. Agent and Hannah John-Kamen’s enigmatic Ghost. With its mix of action, humor, and a powerful message about overcoming despair and fostering camaraderie, “Thunderbolts*” serves as a refreshing reminder of Marvel Studios’ potential when they’re at their creative best.
12. Avengers: Age of Ultron
Despite some criticisms such as it being less impressive than the initial Avengers film and the confusing plotline involving Wanda and Pietro, I’m still baffled by the intense dislike for this movie. 11. Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2
The sequel to Marvel’s lighthearted franchise is overly lengthy and features an excessive number of post-credit scenes (at least four!). However, the audacity to create a follow-up that ends on such a somber note is commendable. It’s the only Marvel film that manages to make me shed tears, yet it also includes humor about divine alien phallic symbols. 9. Spider-Man: Far From Home
In the sequel to Marvel’s Spidey movie, Tom Holland reprises his role as the astounding Spider-Man. The film, titled “Far From Home,” slightly falls short of its predecessor, yet it is filled with romance, action, humor, and emotion. Although no one explicitly says “with great power comes great responsibility,” this theme remains central to the movie just as much as in any other Spiderman film. Peter Parker, portrayed by Holland, grapples with his conflicting desires: pursuing a romantic relationship with MJ (played by the witty Zendaya) and adhering to Nick Fury’s (Samuel L. Jackson’s portrayal exuding irritation) instructions to thwart a group of elemental villains.
8. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
James Gunn skillfully concludes his Guardians trilogy with a movie that delivers the perfect Marvel cocktail – thrilling action, quirky sci-fi visuals, and compelling characters we deeply care for. By the end of Volume 3, Rocket Raccoon transitions from a B-list Marvel character to one of the company’s most complex and tragic heroes. Following a series of underwhelming films, Gunn effortlessly makes it seem easy. Sadly, he’s moving on to manage DC projects now.
7. Avengers: Endgame
A significant leap beyond “Infinity War” and arguably the second finest Marvel’s “Avengers” film, boasting grandiose action sequences, hearty humor, and potentially an unprecedented number of Easter eggs across all cinematic universes. (For further details, please refer to here.)

Among the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s films that are hard to resist watching multiple times, there are captivating characters, thrilling Spider-Man sequences, and an unexpected street vendor requesting a flip from Spider-Man, which he performs. 5. Guardians of the Galaxy
At halfway point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the initial “Guardians” movie marked a shift for Marvel by demonstrating that their brand had the power to draw audiences to previously unrecognized properties. Before James Gunn took over, the Guardians were practically insignificant, but he transformed them into a massive success against all expectations. 4. Captain America: The First Avenger
This film, despite having a somewhat disorganized narrative structure (as it condenses an entire war into a quick montage), is exceptionally successful in bringing the character of Captain America, played by Chris Evans, to life within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It transformed a hero often criticized as dull or outdated into a vibrant, engaging, multi-dimensional figure embodying basic human virtues. 3. Black Panther
Instead of striving for deep connections with the cosmic realm in many Marvel films, Black Panther demonstrates the merit of a more self-contained narrative style. In the film’s conclusion, as Black Panther decides to reveal Wakanda to the outside world (and its characters to future roles), it is intended as a joyful resolution. However, if this decision leads to a sequel with a broader focus and numerous guest appearances, one might argue that it is not such a happy ending after all.
