It’s been a while since we’ve seen him since Deadpool & Wolverine, but it sounds like they might be recasting the role. This is a big deal because Ryan Reynolds has been Deadpool for ten years – ever since the first Deadpool movie in 2016! Apparently, there’s a good reason for this change, and thankfully, it doesn’t mean we won’t see Reynolds back as Deadpool in Deadpool 4 eventually.
Morph Is Going To Take Deadpool’s Form In X-Men ’97 Season 2
The new trailer for X-Men ’97 season 2 surprised fans by hinting at an appearance by Deadpool. However, it won’t be the Deadpool we know. Instead of Wade Wilson himself, the character Morph will be transforming to look like Deadpool. Morph is a shapeshifter who can mimic other people’s appearances – and even some of their powers, though not perfectly.
While the upcoming X-Men ’97 will feature a version of Deadpool, it will actually be the shape-shifting character Morph taking on that form. This marks the first time anything resembling Deadpool has appeared on screen since Deadpool & Wolverine. Because it’s Morph and not Deadpool himself, it’s unlikely Ryan Reynolds will reprise the role. Since X-Men ’97 is animated, Reynolds could potentially voice the character, but Morph usually doesn’t talk much when transformed, particularly during action sequences.
Because Morph transforms into Deadpool during a fight in the trailer, it’s unlikely Deadpool’s look and abilities will be used for very long. It seems Morph will probably turn into Deadpool briefly to help defeat an enemy or provide healing, then revert back to their original form. Based on what we’ve seen, it doesn’t appear Ryan Reynolds will get the opportunity to play Deadpool in X-Men ’97.
Even If Morph Speaks As Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds Likely Won’t Do The Voice
There’s a chance Deadpool might appear in season 2 of X-Men ’97, but it probably won’t be Ryan Reynolds voicing the character. Morph has the ability to mimic people’s voices when he transforms, and he’s shown this with characters like Jean Grey and Professor X. Although he doesn’t always use this skill – especially when fighting while transformed – Morph could potentially sound like Deadpool.
While Morph imitates Deadpool’s speech, it’s unlikely Ryan Reynolds will voice the character in X-Men ’97. Usually, actors who play live-action roles don’t also voice their animated versions in this series – Patrick Stewart, who played Xavier in the X-Men films, is a good example. Deadpool could be different since he’s new to the animated show and Reynolds loves the role, but most likely the producers will cast a different voice actor.
Marvel Studios probably doesn’t want to spend a lot of money on Ryan Reynolds to voice Deadpool for just a few lines, or possibly no lines at all. As a major star, even a small amount of his time in the recording booth would be very expensive. It’s more likely that X-Men ’97 will hire a voice actor who typically charges less. They could even bring in someone who has voiced Deadpool before, like Nolan North.
While it’s not certain, there’s a small possibility Ryan Reynolds might reprise his role as Deadpool’s voice in X-Men ’97 season 2. He clearly loves playing Wade Wilson, and could potentially contribute even for a lower salary. However, most signs currently point to Reynolds not being involved in the show’s second season.
