デクスター: 復活シーズン2には複数の殺人者が登場

Season 2 is looking fantastic! In the last few weeks, three well-known actors have joined the cast. Brian Cox, famous for Succession, and Uma Thurman, known from Kill Bill, will play the characters Don Framt and Charley Brown. They’ll be joined by Dan Stevens in this new installment of the Dexter series.

Actor Luke Evans is known for his roles in popular projects like Downton Abbey, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and Beauty and the Beast. Paramount has announced he’ll be playing Owen Stark, a character also called the Five Borough Killer, in the new Dexter series. This casting indicates a significant shift in direction for the show, moving away from its original storyline.

Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 Is Going Multi-Killer

Between 2006 and 2013, the show Dexter followed a successful pattern. Each season focused on a major villain that Dexter targeted for elimination. He often justified his actions by following the rules his father, Harry, had instilled in him, allowing him to both control his dark urges and appear as a hero in Miami. These villains were sometimes people Dexter initially considered friends or family, with relationships turning sour, or they were criminals he targeted from the start.

The pattern continued in later installments as well. Both Dexter: New Blood and the now-canceled Dexter: Original Sin featured Dexter facing off against dangerous killers: Kurt Caldwell in New Blood, and a single, unhinged Miami Metro Homicide captain in Original Sin who targeted children and anyone who opposed him.

The revival of Dexter, titled Dexter: Resurrection, took a new direction in its first season. The story focused heavily on repairing the damaged relationship between Dexter and his son, Harrison, after Harrison shot Dexter. While moving to New York City seemed like a chance for Dexter to focus on love and family, he quickly became entangled with a group of serial killers led by the wealthy Leon Prater.

Being part of a group for murderers meant Dexter encountered other serial killers, including Lady Vengeance, the Tattoo Collector, and Rapunzel. Though he eliminated these killers one by one, his biggest threats remained Prater and Angel Batista, who were determined to prove Dexter was the Bay Harbor Butcher.

I remember watching the first season of Dexter: New Blood and honestly, it felt a little different. It wasn’t quite clear what the show was going to be like yet. They introduced a bunch of killers, but it seemed like that was all connected to this bigger, messed-up thing run by Prater. A lot of us were expecting it to go back to the style of the earlier seasons, where Dexter focused on one main villain. They really seemed to be building up Prater as that guy, but the show totally surprised us with Stevens’ character instead! It was a great twist.

Season 2 is building on the foundation laid in Season 1, introducing a complex plot involving multiple villains targeting both Dexter and his son, Harrison. This significantly raises the tension, as Dexter previously only had to focus on one enemy at a time. Now, he’s facing the Five Borough Killer and may also have to contend with Charley’s return and potential revenge.

The Five Borough Killer is a murderer who, like the Zodiac Killer, enjoys teasing the police by contacting them directly. Authorities have identified this individual as a major threat – the second significant case of its kind.

What the Format Change Means for Dexter and Harrison in Season 2

The show’s writers are really turning up the heat on Dexter. They’ve moved him to the unpredictable environment of New York City and made him more exposed by bringing his son along. His recent murder of a billionaire was a bold move, and now he’s facing potential consequences from multiple sources – it could be someone like Charley, a figure from Prater’s past, or even a former member of his kill group seeking revenge.

Season 2 will definitely feature a showdown between these two rivals, but a new, potentially even more formidable threat has emerged. Given the similarities in how Don Framt and Owen Stark operate – both kill and taunt their victims and the police – it’s possible they might even join forces. They could unleash chaos on the city, or target Dexter and Harrison as a team.

At first, Harrison was hesitant to assist his father, but he changed his mind once he believed Dexter wasn’t harming anyone. This is why Harrison helped Dexter escape from Prater – he trusted his father was actually helping people by eliminating the billionaire.

If multiple serial killers – including the New York Ripper, the Five Borough Killer, and someone known as Charley – are targeting someone, Harrison wouldn’t hesitate to help his father, either by killing the attackers or going into hiding. It’s become clear that the show’s creator, Clyde Phillips, intends to feature multiple killers this season, a strategy that proved successful in the first season.

The show delivers a thrilling crime story with unexpected twists, but it’s a fresh take, not a simple continuation of the original. The creator isn’t relying on past success; instead, he’s given it a new format, compelling characters, and a bolder tone. This approach honors the source material while making it genuinely entertaining.

It will be challenging for the writers and actors to manage several villains, but Dexter: Resurrection is well-equipped to handle it if anyone can.
