According to Joyner’s account, the illustrations in the book depict a very disturbing portrayal of The Leader, featuring a tentacle-like structure emerging from his brain and menacingly looming over Anthony Mackie’s character.
In “The Incredible Hulk”, the character Samuel Sterns, a cellular biologist, came into contact with Bruce Banner’s blood. The 2008 film hinted at Sterns’ transformation, leaving viewers curious about the appearance of this intelligent antagonist when he was eventually changed. Nevertheless, one could argue that Ian Joyner’s concept would have made Tim Blake Nelson’s antagonist one of the MCU’s more distinctive villains, and certainly more monstrous.
